Native American Medicine Osha Root or Bear Medicine

Ligusticum porteri, known as Osha or oshá, is a perennial herb found in parts of the Rocky Mountains and northern Mexico, especially in the southwestern United States. Its common names include osha root, Porter's lovage, Porter's licorice-root, lovage, wild lovage, Porter's wild lovage, loveroot, Porter's ligusticum, bear medicine, bear root, Colorado cough root, Indian root, Indian parsley, wild parsley, mountain ginseng, mountain carrot, nipo, empress of the dark forest, chuchupate, chuchupati, chuchupaste, chuchupatle, guariaca, hierba del cochino or yerba de cochino, raíz del cochino, and washí (tarahumara). In the Jicarilla language, osha is called ha’ich’idéé. The White Mountain Apache call it ha 'il chii' gah.

Magnitude 8 1 Earthquake Strikes Southern Mexico and Central and Guatemala

Mexico has suffered its strongest earthquake in a century, leaving at least six people dead, sparking mass evacuations and prompting warnings of tsunamis across the region. The magnitude 8.2 quake occurred 165km west of the state of Chiapas just before midnight on Thursday local time. Initial waves 1m over tide level were recorded at the Mexican city of Salina Cruz by the Pacific tsunami warning centre. They predicted waves between 0.3 and 1 metres for the Cook Islands, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guatemala and Kiribati.

Hurricane Harvey: Call it What it Is

his is a good week to appreciate the dry roof over your head and the food in your refrigerator. Now is the perfect time to appreciate, truly appreciate, that you have a home to come home to: that you have a dry bed, and that your people and pets are close to you. Be grateful for the toilet that flushes, the electricity coming out of the wall, and the privilege of having a toaster and some bread to put in it.
