Assessment of the Venezuelan Presidential Election Results
The United States participated in the July 28 presidential election in Venezuela despite great odds. I commend the people. At least 12 million Venezuelans peacefully went to the polls to exercise one of the most powerful rights a citizen has in a democracy: the right to vote. Unfortunately, there were serious flaws in the voting process and in the publication of results by the Maduro-led National Electoral Council (CNE), resulting in results that did not reflect the will of the Venezuelan people. The
CNE hastily announced Nicolás Maduro as the winner of the presidential election, but there was no supporting evidence. Despite repeated requests from the Venezuelan people and the international community, the CNE has yet to release disaggregated data or vote counts. As the independent Carter Center Observatory has reported, the failure of the CNE to provide official results at the district level and irregularities throughout the process have completely undermined the credibility of its results.
Meanwhile, the democratic opposition released more than 80 percent of the tallies it received directly from polling stations across Venezuela. According to these tallies, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia received the most votes by a landslide in this election. Independent observers corroborate these findings, and the results are also supported by exit polls and preliminary election day numbers. Following the election, we consulted extensively with partners and allies around the world, and while countries have taken different approaches in their responses, we have concluded that Nicolás Maduro did not receive the most votes in this election. The overwhelming evidence makes it clear to the United States, and especially to the Venezuelan people, that Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia received the most votes in the Venezuelan presidential election on July 28.
Furthermore, the United States denies Maduro’s unfounded allegations against opposition leaders. Maduro and his proxies’ threat to arrest opposition leaders, including Edmundo Gonzalez and Maria Colina Machado, is an undemocratic attempt to suppress political participation and maintain power. The safety of democratic opposition leaders and members must be protected. All Venezuelans detained while peacefully exercising their right to participate in the electoral process or demanding transparency in the counting and publication of results must be immediately released. Police and security forces must not become instruments of political violence used against citizens exercising their democratic rights.
Congratulations to Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia on a successful campaign. Now is the time for Venezuela’s political parties to begin talks for a respectful and peaceful transition of power, in accordance with Venezuela’s electoral laws and the wishes of the Venezuelan people. We fully support the process of rebuilding democratic norms in Venezuela and stand ready to explore ways to strengthen them together with our international partners.

I have no idea what’s going on in Venezuela.

But the fact that Biden’s State Department is defending Maduro’s enemy, Urrutia, makes me wonder if the State Department and its CIA partners are interested in overthrowing Maduro.

However, I find it ironic that the United States can judge other countries’ election results but cannot protect its own. It claims voter fraud in other countries but has no interest in protecting elections in its own country.

The State Department has a motive, and it has nothing to do with fair elections or doing what is right.
